2024 Hero Dog Award
Bo (Kiss x Judge) an 8th generation man trailer with Gastonia PD in NC has won the LE/SAR category for the Hero Dog Award (click for the USA Today article). He got his start with his partner, Officer Rowland, when he was 8 weeks old, at our man trailing workshop, KSTAR in April of 2023. By 8 months old, he was saving lives and solving cases. By 18 months, he had 13 finds. He is now in the finals which will be determined this winter. Please join us, in wishing him luck!
Update: he won! He’s the youngest K9 I have been able to find to be selected for this award!
2023 Trailing Dog of the Year
Anthem (Annabelle x Prime) is a 7th generation man trailer with the Broward County Sheriff's Office in FL. He began his career with Deputy Covet, in April of 2019 at our man trailing workshop, KSTAR. Together they have had many finds, including the one they were awarded the 2023 Trailing Dog of the Year for!
2022 Trailing Dog of the Year
Ryley (Meeka - Spirit x Patton) x Judge (Storm x Legend) is a 6th generation man trailer with the Broward County Sheriff's Office in FL. She began her career in 2020. After having multiple finds, she was awarded the 2022 Trailing Dog of the Year!
2021 CW Dog of the Year - LE
Mercy (Spirit x Patton) joined Lee County Sheriff's Office in Florida after attending training through Bluegrass Bloodhounds, in house program. In a short time, she had multiple finds under her belt. She was awarded the CW Dog of the Year 2021 - LE after finding a lost child in a hurricane!
2020 & 2021 Trailing Dog of the Year
Holmes (Maybelle - Secret x Ben) x Patton joined the Flagler County Sheriff's Office in April of 2019. He began his training at our man trailing workshop, KSTAR. Within a few months, he had multiple finds, including a lost child and an evading criminal.

Exceeding The Tracking Standard
Breeding Program
Bluegrass Bloodhounds produces high drive problem solving man trailing bloodhounds, available to domestic and international working homes and law enforcement. Candidates are carefully selected. Before a canine is admitted into the breeding program, it must illustrate proper temperament and confirmation (according to the American Kennel Club's breed standard), be a working dog and have health clearances.
Bluegrass Bloodhounds is exceedingly proud to have the unique honor of being the only bloodhound breeder privileged to be invited into the American Kennel Club Patriotic Puppy Program. This program provides patent pending imprinting techniques and up to date nutritional and environmental information from some of the leading universities and agencies on in-utero and neonatal imprinting and development of detection canines. We have taken their imprinting techniques for explosive detection canines and modified the imprinting techniques to accelerate the development and improve on the abilities of scent specific man trailers.
Since introducing the modified regiment into our program of selectively bred working dogs, we have been able to consistently produce outstanding working canines. Approximately 90% of our pups go into Law Enforcement (or DOC), 8% into Search and Rescue and 2% into game recovery. We have been able to produce 14 pups with the FBI Scent Evidence Team (15th to be placed in January of 2025), 2 with National Park Police, 2 with Homeland Security, 1 with the Drug Enforcement Agency, 4 consecutive (2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023) Trailing Dog of the Year and the only

Strong genetics developed over a decade of selective breeding in combination with an intense regiment of early imprinting, stimulation, desensitization, and nutritional protocols allows us to develop some of the best working bloodhounds available in the field today.
